My mother raised me and my younger sister on rice and soy milk. We didn’t drink cow’s milk straight out of the carton or in a glass. Rather we used cow’s milk more as an ingredient for cooking and baking. Even then, we didn’t cook very much growing up so we never had cow’s milk in the refrigerator. It was always Rice Dream and, on occasion, some kind of soy milk. As I got older milk products expanded to different soy, rice, and nut brands. My favorite is almond milk. It’s satisfying.
Today, we don’t drink almond milk every day, but when Rayden (our son) started weaning off of mother’s milk and formula we introduced him to almond milk. It’s clean, dairy-free, gentle on the stomach, and tastes good. One day I decided to “dress-up” my almond milk with different seasonings. Rayden was in the kitchen with me and recognized the almond milk carton. He lifted his hands up as if to say, “Your glass is now mine.” So, I let him have a taste. He grabbed the glass and didn’t stop drinking – ha! I thought, “Well, I think he likes it.” After that, I decided to give Rayden seasoned almond milk.
Cinnamon is a great antioxidant and has many other health benefits, which you can learn more about online. Coconut oil is a healthy fat. I add a few drops of children’s probiotics to build and maintain good flora in Rayden’s growing digestive system. All of this is good for him and tastes great. I don’t really have to think too hard about why it is beneficial either. I like recipes like that. Kind of like that instantaneous feeling you get when you eat a good green salad. You’re enjoying it, feeling satiated, but not fixated on whether or not it is good for you; it just is.
|Seasoned Almond Milk
|1 glass of Almond Milk|
|Pinch of Cinnamon Powder|
|1-2 tablespoons of Raw Honey*|
|1 teaspoon of Coconut Oil|
|Unsweetened Coconut Flakes|
To make seasoned almond milk simply:
- Pour an 8 ounce glass or container with ALMOND MILK
- Add CINNAMON POWDER, RAW HONEY*, PROBIOTICS**, and COCONUT OIL
- Mix or shake all of the ingredients together
- Add some UNSWEETENED COCONUT FLAKES if you like
Sip and enjoy!
*Raw Honey – Studies have shown that serving honey or raw honey to infants or children under the age of 1 is not recommended. Their digestive enzymes to breakdown honey have not fully developed and the result could give the child stomach pains and cramps.
**Probiotics – Follow the dosage instructions on the label and suitable for the child’s age
